Research

  • Around 1 in 5 of the world's children and adolescents have a mental disorder.

  • Depression is one of the leading causes of disability, affecting 264 million people.

  • About half of mental disorders begin before the age of 14.

  • Almost 800 000 people die by suicide every year; 1 person dies from suicide every 40 seconds. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in individuals aged 15-29 years.

  • Around 1 in 9 people in settings affected by conflict have a moderate or severe mental disorder.

Many people still don’t recognize mental health as a medical issue that can be treated. Issues like depression are often viewed as just being sad or a “phase.”

'Elate' Reminder App for those struggling with mental health issues. The application will work as a reminder about simple daily activities one should do to improve ones state of mind.

Reminders are specifically created to be simple 'do-able' tasks to ensure accomplishments.

Example of reminders include:

  • Eat Something Light

  • Ask for a hug

  • Vent to someone

  • Go for a walk

'Elate' App is also for people who aren't necessarily struggling with mental health issues, but for those who want reminders of how to help someone who is.

Example of reminders include:

  • Feed someone

  • Offer a hug

  • Let them vent

  • Walk with them

Random check ups will help the app and yourself keep track of your moods to create an average per week and be able to track progress.

home page includes "mood  wheel" to help identify what emotion you're feeling at the moment

profile page includes:

  • journal entries

  • record of all emotions

  • message at top depending on how one's currently feeling

search page with top articles after identifying one's current emotion.

We want to spread our messages to the world.

With the help of visual aids like bilboards, we will be able to reach out to any person outside to help remind them with special messages, that they are not alone.

Partnering with the City of New York to help spread the message. Signs would be placed in places with most traffic.

Mental health issues arise in more populated busy areas like major cities due to higher stress levels. This project will aim to show the people that they are not alone.
